A Kinder World Starts With Us
From 1–7 October, Be Kind to Animals Week invites us all to think about the animals with whom we share our lives and our world, while World Animal Day on 4 October brings people across the globe together in a shared vision for a kinder world for animals.
This year’s World Animal Day theme, “See the World Through Their Eyes”, is one particularly close to our hearts here at Edgar’s Mission, with our founder, Pam Ahern OAM, proudly serving as the Australian Ambassador for World Animal Day.
Because perhaps seeing the world through another’s eyes is where kindness so often begins.
When we stop seeing animals simply for what they can provide us and instead wonder what the world might look and feel like to them, something shifts. Our choices can change and our circle of compassion grows a little wider.
So this October, we’re encouraging everyone to help expand that circle.
Could your workplace host a plant-based morning tea? Could your school explore the remarkable abilities and emotional lives of animals? Perhaps your local library could create a kindness display, your community group could support an animal organisation or you could simply start a conversation that helps someone see animals a little differently.
No act of kindness is too small to matter.
None of us alone can change the whole world. But each of us can make our little corner of it kinder.
And when enough little corners become kinder, just imagine the world we might create.
