Our Mission

What We Do

Our mission is kindness
From rescuing and providing sanctuary to farmed animals in need, finding forever homes for those who can be adopted, and advocating for those we cannot save, our mission of kindness runs through everything we do.

Providing shelter and direct care for homeless, abused injured and abandoned animals.

Few places on earth exist where farmed animals get to grow old with grace, dignity, and kindness. Edgar’s Mission is proudly one of them.

Our promise to every animal who enters our sanctuary gates is that we will give them with a life truly worth living – no matter their age, or their ailments.

From laser therapy to prosthetics, hydrotherapy to custom-built carts, we are committed to pushing traditional veterinary boundaries and outdated perceptions to ensure that our animal residents receive the quality care they so deserve.

We rely on volunteers, donors and supporters to help us provide care for our resident animals. Please see how you can help.

For more information about who we can rescue, visit our Help Centre.

Finding permanent homes for mistreated and abandoned animals.

Our policy is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome whenever possible.

Our adoption program seeks to match animals with loving forever homes. We are immensely grateful to those who have adopted animals rescued by Edgar’s Mission.

Interested in adopting? Please head to our animal adoption page to find out more.

Promoting compassion, understanding and respect for all animals and promoting responsible and humane treatment.

Through education, outreach, advocacy, community enrichment and sanctuary tours, we encourage people to expand their circle of compassion to include all animals.

Sanctuary tours

We offer regular guided tours during spring, summer and autumn. Groups of up to 25 people are taken on a heart-warming and informative tour around the sanctuary, led by a knowledgeable member of our team. Bookings are essential here.

Edgar’s Mission offers on-site educational programs for schools and community group excursions, or can come to you for a fun, informative and thought-provoking presentation.

Our compassionate presenters are mindful never to tell people what to do or not do, rather we encourage people to think and develop their own values based on facts and personal priorities. No graphic images are included.

For more information, visit our education page.

Edgar’s Mission runs campaigns throughout the year advocating on behalf of farmed animals. We make submissions to government investigations and work in a number of other ways to speak up for farmed animals.

Our greatest tool for creating a humane and just world rests with an informed public. We regularly conduct outreach work throughout the community, attending markets, fairs, expos and community events.

We seek to inform people on how their lifestyle and dietary choices impact animals and the world around them. We believe that through hearing the stories of our animal ambassadors, and by learning about the plight of farmed animals, people will be empowered to make more informed and compassionate choices.
