When joy outstrips the sadness

Updated June 3, 2024

Pounds are rarely joyful places for animals for any species, but this is doubly so for farmed animals. For rare, oh so rare, is a kindly human coming forward to bring that farmed animal home to a lifetime of love, care and kindness.

But against the odds, that is just what happened to two elderly rams recently. In fact, it was due to kindly pound workers that their lives were spared. With wisdom showing in their eyes, tinged with a certain sadness that lingered from their past, it was clear humans had not always been kind to them. Their lives had been commandeered for breeding more hapless animals to suffer the servitude of human use for meat or breeding.

With neither ending well.

With personalities as big as their bodies, they are as different as chalk and vegan cheese. Fabio is curious and friendly, although that lowered head every now and then reminds us to keep our guard, for he is surely keeping his. His bigger buddy, with his handsomely hairy chest, prefers to take the back seat and hope he will not be noticed. But how could one not notice a sheep as handsome as he?

More and more farmed animals are becoming, just like Fabio and Frederic, formerly farmed animals, living lives of joy and happiness at sanctuary.

As the days tick by, each one removing them further from their past, the joy in their lives now far outstrips any residual sadness.

And as it does, it encourages those who care deeply about animals to take the greatest of heart in a world that is not always kind to them, to never give in to what at times can be overwhelming sadness. More and more farmed animals are becoming, just like Fabio and Frederic, formerly farmed animals, living lives of joy and happiness at sanctuary. And everyone who has the good fortune to meet these animals and learn of their incredible stories of hope and salvation walks away with a newfound commitment to never again be the cause of their pain, suffering and death.
