Far from stupid…

Updated September 3, 2024

To many people, sheep are seen as synonymous with stupidity. But when one knows the truth about sheep, they know that these much-maligned animals are far from stupid.

Heart-centred beings are sheep. They are intelligent and honest in their emotions. Through the ages, they have learned the value of acting together, that safety comes in numbers, and that we are better when we are together.

So, when the handsome, young Aussie White wether, whom we have named Zachary, became lost from his flock, he, too, lost his sense of being. A solitary life is no life for a sheep frightened and flighty he became. The next thing he knew, he was holed up in a rural country pound. The ominous scent of death from the abattoir a stone’s throw away, only heightening his fear

With his gentle nature shining through, this touched the kind heart of a ranger, who ensured that was a path he would not follow.

Now safely ensconced in sanctuary, Zachary is navigating his way back to the world—a world far removed from the one into which he was born and the one that would have claimed him well before his time.

Regardless of form, we all cherish our being.

Each day he is becoming a more confident and curious version of himself. He sniffs our hand, this touches our heart, but he is still not sure. This reminding us, that regardless of form, we all cherish our being. Watching on, it is clear he acts with intention, having the ability to influence his environment and those around him.

In short, he has agency.

To those who are blind to this, sheep are believed to be reactive beings driven solely by instinct, devoid of the ability to make their own choices and they are only here on this earth as a resource for our use. If one is to subscribe to that point of view, perhaps then, it is not sheep who are the stupid ones.
