Scarlet—Running Because She Can

Updated April 17, 2025

Once, she ran in fear. But not today. Now, she pauses, nostrils twitching as she tries to make sense of it all—a world that no longer demands her fear. Though it still lingers in her mind, we know that one day, it will not.

Scarlet arrived at the sanctuary on 24 February 2025. Her wide eyes searched frantically for an escape, her rectangular pupils—crafted by nature to scan for danger—doing exactly that. Fear knew her well. It ran through her slender black legs and coursed through her trembling body, waiting for the next betrayal.

It never came.

We watched, our hearts aching.

“What had humans done to her?”

We stretched out a hand—gentle, soft. A quiet offering. A mirror of what would be.

She declined. But only so for now.

Scarlet is a goat of beauty and grace, deserving far more than life and human indifference had ever given her. Her past is a whisper, untold and unknown, as elusive as the justice goats will never find. But her future—that is now hers to write.

No longer bound by fear. No longer defined by cruelty. She will see it. She will feel it. She will love it

One where her worth is not dictated by human measures. Where harsh voices and rough hands no longer shape her world. Where her life is not governed by expectation, but by her own choosing.
And one day—one day soon—we trust she will realise this.

No longer bound by fear. No longer defined by cruelty. She will see it. She will feel it. She will love it. She will understand that joy, freedom and autonomy were always hers to claim.

And on that day, she will run. Not from fear. But simply because she can.

Welcome home, Miss Scarlet.
