Reviving Renault

Updated September 5, 2024

In the bleak chill of this harshest of winters, sheep grazier alerts were common. Into this unforgiving world tiny Renault was born. Amongst the darkness of it all, it seemed her life would be taken before it even began. Ghostly winds blew as bitter frosts blanketed the ground making life even more unforgiving for a newborn tiny lamb.

And so hypothermic little Renault became having eaten up all the brown adipose fat newborn lambs have to kick start their world. By the time kindness discovered her, life was receding fast, and so we had to act faster.

Her body temperature so low it couldn’t even be measured, causing us to wrap her in a special “Bair hugger” — a warm blanket designed to revive fading newborns such as her. Leaving the Bair Hugger to do its job we aided it by willing warmth into her bones. Trusting all the while this would spark a fire in her precious little heart.

Miraculously it did as Renault began to stir.

That little Renault has motored through the worst of her journey stands as a testament to resilience and the power of care. Though she had been born in the coldest of winters, human kindness has melted all of this. She thrived not just because of the nourishment she received, but because of the connection and companionship she has shared with her equally fortunate fellow lambs and the humans who love her.

Her story reminds us that no matter how bleak our beginnings, hope can always be found in compassion. Renault’s survival is more than just a victory over adversity; it is a symbol of what can be achieved when love and care are extended to the most vulnerable among us.
