The story of Navara

A lamb’s tale

Updated September 5, 2024

Two little lambs took their first breaths beneath a cloudy sky in the quiet stillness of a winter’s day. Though they were born crisp and bright, their futures were as ominous as the frosty world they had entered. Fragile and new, their chances were slim.

This was made even more so when their confused and bewildered mumma wandered off. For one, the journey ended too soon, slipping quietly and unknown from this world. This left little Navara, still seeking the warmth of her mother, settling for the cold comfort of loss and the still body of her sibling.

Yet, life has a way of offering light, even in the darkest moments. And with this, Navara was found and brought to sanctuary—a place where warmth is more than a sensation; it’s our solemn promise. Here, kindness and companionship are as nourishing as the sweet-tasting formula shared among her equally fortunate buddies.

Here, she has found not just survival and her tribe—but a second chance at life.

Navara touches our hearts daily with her gentle ways, joyful leaps and playful bounds. But nothing quite matches her soft nibbles on our chins. It is as if she knows this is the way to our hearts. With every new orphaned lamb who arrives, we are compelled to ask how we, as a society, have strayed so far. How have we come to accept that new life can be so easily forgotten, left to the indifference of the elements, hungry predators or poorly crafted animal protection laws?

Life is sacred, regardless of whom it belongs to.

Life is sacred, regardless of whom it belongs to. When we reduce beings to label of farm animals, we numb ourselves to their individual stories and their rich emotional worlds. In Navara’s pleading cries, we hear another call. One that awakens our empathy, reminding us of our own vulnerability and strength. In her innocence, we find a call to compassion—a call to recognise and uplift those less empowered than ourselves.

Thank you, Navara, for gently urging us to rise above indifference. Your story reminds us that every choice we make can pave the way to a kinder world for all.
