Tiny Whispers

Updated August 19, 2025

Her ears twitched. She heard it. Her chest rose. She felt it. Tiny whispers.

Whispers that somehow made their way through the weight of her matted fleece—a fleece braided with debris, sorrow and something astounding. Something that abandonment and commodification could not rob her of: resilience.

Whispers that urged her to trust, though trust was something she has long since buried beneath fear.

Frida Kahlo, as we would come to call her, ran like the wind that day we first met. Ran as if her life depended on it—because to her, it did.

Her boldness, her defiance, her spirit all painted a portrait worthy of her namesake. Like the artist, this Frida bore the scars of a life that had tested her at every turn.

How long she had been lost, no one could say. But her tangled coat and wary gaze spoke of a long and lonely journey. A journey where the world had shown its harshest face and where humans had failed her before.

Little did she know, we were not like those she had encountered. We were there to help her find her way home.

The rescue was no easy feat. Frida led us on a merry chase across paddocks and into uncharted sheds. Her determination—as fierce as the storm that once raged in her heart—drove her onward.

Sensing our need for help, we called on Kansas—a sassy, seasoned sheep whose calm presence helped ease Frida’s fear. Bit by bit, those tiny whispers grew louder in Frida’s heart, telling her maybe—just maybe—this time was different.

And this time, we ensured it was.

Today, Frida stands proudly among her new flock. Her freshly shorn coat revealing striking black and white patterns as unique as the soul beneath it. She is playful, curious and bold—embracing her sanctuary life with the same vibrant spirit that earned her the name Frida Kahlo.

A name that speaks of resilience, courage and a beauty that refuses to be hidden.

Now, far from the traffic of her troubled past, Frida is nestled safely in kindness, free to become all she was meant to be.

And if you listen closely, you may hear it too—the tiny whispers of your own heart, reminding you that kindness is always, always, the way.
