Safe in Our Hands
Cradled gently in our hands is the tiny life force of Diamontina. Her cheery chirps and delicate vulnerability draw us in, as though we are holding the most precious gem. And indeed, we are.
As her tiny wings sweep against our palms, she captures not just our attention — but also our hearts. It feels as though she’s sharing a special message: “I may be small, but I am mighty.”
And indeed, she is.
Diamontina’s very essence makes her as strong as a tiger, as powerful as an elephant, and her experiences as real and meaningful as ours.
When Diamontina arrived at sanctuary, she brought with her a painful injury. One that an x-ray revealed was a tiny fracture just above her hock. While some might have dismissed her as not worth the effort, they clearly underestimated the fierce and unyielding spirit within her.
With a carefully crafted splint now in place, rest and TLC is her prescription. And we, her loyal servants.
It may surprise some to realise that animals like Diamontina live lives parallel to our own. They flinch in pain as we do. They crave food when hungry, seek safety and warmth when vulnerable, and yearn for companionship — for the very reasons we do.
As the Buddha wisely said: “See yourself in others; then whom can you harm?”
Diamontina darling, you are safe now, cradled in our loving hands.
