Dave & Mabel are Safe
Sometimes, the smallest sentence carries the greatest relief. Dave and Mabel are safe. Two small words that have painted a kinder world for them.
Not long ago, Dave and Mabel found themselves in a country pound where their future was uncertain and their backstory unknown. What we do know is this: lives like theirs can turn on a single moment, a decision where compassion forgets them or a stranger’s care finds them.
For Dave and Mabel, that moment arrived.
With Edgar’s Mission already caring for more animals than ever and sheep in particular needing urgent help at this time of year, we reached out to our community before their rescue began, hoping someone might open their gate and their life to them.
And bless, someone did.
When the message came through with a ready “yes”, it felt as though the world had shifted ever so slightly in the right direction.
Dave, whose horns are as majestic as his nature is affable, will soon undergo castration before beginning the next chapter of his life. While Mabel, sweet yet understandably cautious, will slowly discover that gentle hands and patient voices can offer safety rather than the fear she has come to know.
For two sheep who once stood in a pound with no clear tomorrow, the path ahead now leads somewhere very different.
And while it brings enormous relief to know Dave and Mabel will wake each day to grass beneath their hooves and calm around them, it is impossible not to think of the many others still waiting for their moment of reprieve.
For now, though, two lives have changed course, and Dave and Mabel are safe.
And perhaps this is where hope begins. Not only in rescue, but in how their story lives on in the choices we make every day. Choices that can either deepen the suffering of animals or help loosen its grip.
Because the choices we make really can turn lives away from fear and guide them toward a kinder world.
