An act of kindness
We first met Citroen in the frostiness that marked early July. Such a bitter and unforgiving winter that had sadly claimed the lives of so many vulnerable, wee lambs. But, as we were to learn, Citroen was not in that number, through an act of human kindness.
She arrived in the arms of her selfless rescuer. She was swathed in a blanket for warmth, love that echoed the bond between human and animal, and tears that spoke of a heartbreaking goodbye as her carer was no longer in a position to be one.
It was clear the chubby week-old lamb had known kindness during her short time on this earth. Her comfort around humans and her good state of health told us so. Readily recognised by two small beige spots that sit atop her pretty head, Citroen quickly found her place in our lamb clan as she did in our hearts.
“Lambs are for lovin”; we readily attest, Citroen proves this sentiment true. Her rescue story also speaks to the goodness of the human heart. For it was this that found the orphaned lamb, and refused to turn the other way. It too recognised that although their pain would follow with Citroen’s surrender to sanctuary, it was necessary for the little one to continue to thrive. They had done their absolute best; now it is our turn to do so.
Time and again, we are moved by the spirit of humanity. Though every animal who arrives at sanctuary brings with them their unique story, all united by one common thread – a human act of kindness.
