When it comes down to it…

Updated August 1, 2024

When we look at all the tragedy and despair visited upon farmed animals, both legally and illegally, it is easy to feel an overwhelming sense of disempowerment. However, we must believe that we have a choice. Each one of us, as individuals, has the power to change the dire trajectory of the planet.

We can do this best by not succumbing to negativity. Do not give it oxygen; do not feed it, for it will surely consume you. Instead, celebrate all that is good in the world and all that we can make good. Find the small things in your day that lift you up, the little beacons of hope. Seize them, run with them, and tell others about them.

In this spirit, we tell you the story of Camry, a wee orphan lamb found at around one week of age by a kind heart who refused to look the other way, however easy that may have been. Taken to a nearby vet for assessment, his sweet nature stole even more hearts. From there, he made his way to sanctuary, where he claimed even more.

Camry, with his little furry chest that makes him look like an ovine version of Sean Connery, comes more and more into his own each day as his good buddies do what good buddies do – cheer him on. He is warm, gentle, and friendly, never ceasing to brighten our day—a natural anti-depressant if you like.

While we could despair over the circumstances of Camry’s abandonment, we choose not to. We choose to celebrate the goodness of the human hearts that saved him. Good hearts dwell within us all, desperately wanting to surface, yet, for so many, buried under layers of family history or social conditioning.

We can all make mistakes… but we must believe in the transformative power of kindness.

Remember this: We can all make mistakes, head down the wrong path, or make poor life choices at times. But we must believe in the transformative power of kindness.

No act of kindness happens in isolation, as Camry’s story shows us. So, if you do one thing today, please make it a kind one.
