Exceptional by design
At just 3 hours old, little Buick is “exceptional by design”. And although his dear mumma may have not realised this, taking her preference and her milk to his sibling, we most certainly do.
With his umbilical cord still dripping its newness and his little hooves still bearing the caps Mother Nature put in place to facilitate safe passage through his mumma’s birth canal, the shivering Buick was delivered to sanctuary.
As his body temperature rose, and colostrum was thawed, this “liquid gold” was soon swirling its way into his tiny tummy. Exceptional by design is colostrum. Not only does it provide a digestible source of energy and nutrients, but its superpowers lie in its antibodies and immunoglobulins that will kickstart immature immune systems − something that must be delivered in the first 24 hours of life.
Cradling Buick’s tiny form in our hands, our every instinct was to help him make it in this world. Delivering warmth, love, a cute little jacket, all draped in human kindness − this truly is humanity in its finest form. For when we evoke these noble qualities and stand in service to those less fortunate than ourselves, this is when we humans show we can be exceptional by design.
