Adoption – The Heart of Healing in Rescue

Posted June 17 2025
If you’re very lucky in life, you’ll meet a non-human someone who changes you forever.

Someone who sees you for exactly who you are, who brings joy in the darkest of days, and reminds you—every single day—that the bond between human and animal can be truly profound. For Tracie, that someone was Little Sheep.

When Little Sheep passed away, she left behind a woolly space that felt impossible to fill—for both Tracie and Little Sheep’s brother, Big Sheep. But in honour of her beloved girl, Tracie reached out to Edgar’s Mission and adopted 10 sheep who had been surrendered when their former home could no longer care for them.

“These guys have been such a blessing to me and to Big Sheep.

Every morning as soon as the sun is up they are all lining up by my back fence waiting for their lucerne biscuit. They run over to the shed where I feed them and they jump and play with excitement as I get their breaky for them. I love seeing them so happy and playful. In the afternoon I spent some time with them in the paddock and all get lots of hugs and kisses and head scratches. Some are more affectionate than others but they all love a cuddle.

Big Sheep still likes to go off by himself sometimes but often Bob and Birch Caesar follow him. I think he’s closest with Bob and I’ve seen them playing together.

I’m so glad I have changed their lives for the better. But they have changed me too. I stopped eating red meat years ago but thanks to these guys and seeing how they interact as a family, a several weeks ago I committed to going vegan. They are so amazing and I’m so in love with all of them already.

I’m still deeply sad about the loss of my precious Little Sheep. She was my first sheep and she taught me how incredible sheep are. I know she would be very pleased that I have taken on these guys. And whilst I miss her every day, I really wanted something special to come from her loss and thanks to Edgar’s Mission, I think we have achieved that.”

Do you think you might be able to offer an Edgar’s Mission animal a loving forever home?

If you can you provide an animal with a place where they will have the company of their own kind, a place with adequate shelter for all seasons, and a place where they will be valued and cared for in sickness and in health, we’d love to hear from you!
