One Love

Updated February 19, 2026

They were huddled in a corner when we first met them.

Three anxious alpacas pressed together for safety, wide-eyed and nervous, calling out to each other in their distinctive way. Bob, Rita and Marley. We were told that if they weren’t moved by today, they would be shot.

As we gently guided them toward the float, they moved as one, pausing at the ramp as if asking a single question: Is it safe? In that moment, the weight of human power over animals was impossible to ignore.

Yesterday, kindness answered first.

At sanctuary, they stepped onto fertile soil, surrounded by fresh hay and clean water. Watching them settle, it was impossible not to see ourselves reflected back — vulnerable, curious, seeking safety and time to trust.

Three lives spared.
One choice made.
A quiet reminder of why choosing kindness really matters.

Their names also carry a legacy of hope. Bob and Rita Marley dedicated their lives to spreading messages of peace, love, and unity, using music and the arts to inspire change and connect people across the world. “One Love” wasn’t just a song — it was a call to live with compassion, to see the humanity in others, and to choose kindness over indifference. By naming these alpacas after them, we honour that spirit, reminding us that every life, no matter how small or vulnerable, deserves care, safety, and love.

Their journey to sanctuary is a living reflection of that same message: that acts of compassion — no matter how quiet or small — can create ripples of hope that last a lifetime.
