Help Us Build Their Future
Why a New Barn?
After 20 years of operation, Edgar’s Mission is the longest running not-for-profit registered farmed animal sanctuary in Australia. We are a leader in our field, and our barn needs to lead the way in animal care too.
But our barn took a massive hit in the merciless storm of June 2021. Without power for almost two weeks, a lot of infrastructure was critically damaged. Damage we have been unable to fully repair.
Our barn was never intended for its current use of kindness for animals, as it was originally built as part of a horse racing and breeding facility. As such we needed to repurpose, as best we could, the internal workings. And it has served us well. However, we now need to concede in its current state our barn serves us and the animals no more.
What Your Help Will Achieve
Our promise to every animal who enters our sanctuary gates is that we will provide them with a life truly worth living – no matter their age, or their ailments.
From laser therapy to prosthetics, hydrotherapy to custom-built carts, rehabilitation and tailored physiotherapy regimes, our barn is ground zero for much of this specialised care. It not only provides a safe haven for orphaned lambs, animals with disabilities or those requiring rehabilitation to get back on their feet, as well as seniors who need a bit of extra TLC in their twilight years, but it provides hope to many cases where it appears there is none.
Our days start in the barn in the wee hours of the morning as our team huddles together to plan out the day and ends there as treatments sheets are checked and final medications are administered as the clock ticks closer to midnight. To say our barn is the lifeblood of sanctuary life here at Edgar’s Mission is an understatement.
With your help, we truly believe we can build a state-of-the-art barn our animals truly deserve. One that will long serve us into the future and one that will inch us all closer to builder that kinder world we all dream of.
Who You Are Helping
Before her arrival, Eleanor’s ill health caused her to lose her babies, a devastating experience for any mother.
With her spirit and body almost broken she was unable to walk, but as we ushered her into our barn on a stretcher we were determined to help in any way we could.
Then a new arrival brought hope – a baby boy named Ohio, who had just lost his mumma. This precious baby was able to provide everything we could not – a miracle.
Eleanor’s immediate affection for Ohio was undeniable, and as little Ohio grasped firm her teat so too was his.
This is the power of kindness. And just one of the many magical happenings that have played out in our barn.
